The BENUE state Governor, Samuel Ortom has spoken explicitly on why the candidate of the All Progressive Congress,Revd Fr Hyacinth Alia, can't be the governor of BENUE state in 2023.
Ortom ,made this revelation at a reception shortly after a Thanksgiving mass at Saint John’s Catholic Cathedral, organized in Gboko for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Titus Uba.
According to THE WILL, the governor said the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is not qualified to be a candidate in the 2023 general election in Benue state.
He asserted that the PDP has obtained a true certified copy of APC membership register from Vandeikya, where Fr Alia comes from, in which his name was not reflected in it.
“In fact, PDP has no serious governorship opponent in 2023 in the state. We are going to win landslide at the polls. We have won it in 2019 and will repeat in 2023.”

He said the PDP governorship candidate, Titus Uba, is an experienced and exposed personality, that is capable of taking over from him next year and called on the electorate to vote for Uba and other candidates of the PDP in the state.
Governor Ortom, who implored Benue people to obtain their PVCs to vote at the general elections, described the president Muhammadu Buhari administration as disastrous and should be voted out.
He assured that the Anti Open Grazing Prohibition Law 2017 won’t be repealed, as Titus Uba is also capable of sustaining it when voted into power next year.
In his remarks, senator representing Benue South at the national assembly, Comrade Abba Moro, posited that Titus Uba is the consensus candidate that is embraced by all senatorial districts in the state.
He explained that even though he led an agitation for power to shift to Benue South in 2023, the PDP delegates decided in favour of Mr Uba, while his constituents have to wait for another opportunity and called on Benue people to rally round the PDP to produce the next governor in 2023.
In his remarks, the state PDP chairman and running mate, Sir John Ngbede, said with infrastructural and other development the Ortom administration has posted in the past seven years, the people are ready to vote for PDP at all levels.
Responding, Rt Honourable Titus Uba, who is also the Speaker of the Benue State House of assembly, promised to sustain what the PDP government, led by governor Samuel Ortom has posted on ground, calling on electorate to keep faith with the Parry.
He said as someone who has been following on the challenges and needs of the people, he would not afford to disappoint them if voted into office as the governor.
Other speakers including the former speaker of the Benue State House of assembly, Mrs Margaret Icheen, former Speaker Protempro, Terngu Tsegba and former coordinator of PDP governorship aspirants, Barr Chile Igbawua, all pledged their support for Uba to emerge victorious at the polls next year.
Reacting to the governor's speech was social media users and an APC chieftain who has asked the supporters of Reverend Alia to ignore the governor as it was a ploy to distract the people from his abysmally performance in office for 7years of his governance which has brought nothing than impoverishing the state.
"Why didn't he tell the people of Gboko why he has been owing pensioners for over 70 months?".
"This governor must think we are fools. After refusing to pay workers salaries,he is coming up with propaganda". Nothing will stop Alia from becoming our governor in 2023.".
"When did Ortom join APC in 2015 before winning the party's nomination?. I think he has forgotten how he emerged the party's flagbearer before running back to PDP. Another social media user asked!
"This is nothing but a propaganda that shouldn't be taken seriously". Sefa wrote.
