Today, the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has ordered fresh elections between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has annulled the gubernatorial election of Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP and declared Nasir Yusuf Gawna of the APC the correct winner.
The court said that based on evidence submitted by both parties, it found that the APC's allegations that there were fraud and serious violations of electoral law in the first election were justified.
The court therefore ordered new elections to be held between the two parties on a date to be determined by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, a 24-hour curfew was imposed in Kano state after the electoral tribunal removed the state's governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf. Kano State Police Commissioner Muhammad Usaini Gumel said joint teams of security forces had been deployed across the city to enforce the curfew.
