While Prince Harry received a loud welcome at the 2022 Invictus game in Netherlands. The British heir to the throne, Prince William was reportedly booed at Wembley Stadium where he went to witness the FA cup final as the president of the Football Association.
The Duke of Cambridge was booed by sections of the crowd as he appeared on the pitch before the FA Cup final at Wembley.
The Independent reported that, jeering started when the Duke of Cambridge, was introduced to fans during the pre-match BBC television coverage.
As if that wasn't enough, the booing continued as the senior Royal moved down to the pitch where he met and shook hands with Chelsea and Liverpool players prior to the match.
Also,some fans in the stadium who took the national anthem and a rendition of Christian hymn Abide With Me, were also the targets of booing.
MPs reacting to the behaviour of some fans at the Wembley stadium condemned their reception towards the Duke.
Sir Lindsay Hoyle told MailOnline: “I utterly condemn any fans who booed Prince William at Wembley today.
“The FA Cup final should be an occasion when we come together as a country. It should not be ruined by a minority of fans’ totally shameful behaviour. In this year of all years – the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – this is dreadful.”
Sir Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats said: “We have the most wonderful Monarch and those fans who booed do not represent their clubs or our country.”
Though,the Duke of Cambridge looked unbothered by the earlier booing and handed the FA Cup trophy to Liverpool after their win against Chelsea.
Manager Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Chelsea 6-5 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes on Saturday.
